Mazda Plays Close Attention to the MX-5's Needs

Here at Avondale Mazda, we love the exciting Mazda MX-5. The sporty vehicle has torn its way from the road into our psyche, ingraining itself in our minds as a vehicle that represents everything that can do right with a sports car. Mazda knows how much people love this car too, which is why they have opted to make a few modifications to it in order to beloved model in order to ensure that drivers get the most out of it.

First, and foremost, the Mazda MX-5 is in for an upgrade in terms of its horsepower. To compliment the extra power under the hood, Mazda will also be shedding some of the vehicle's weight so that its engine can carry it faster, and with more ease. This is one ride that we would love to show off on our lot at 10675 W Papago Fwy Avondale, AZ 85323.

"Engine displacement will be sized down to approximately 1.5 liters," according to AutoCar, "featuring 4-cylinder turbo direct injection with low-friction reciprocating parts and variable cam phasing. The transmission will get a makeover while preserving its precision, and the exhaust may be redone, as well."1

What does this mean overall? The Mazda MX-5 has been lightened to around 1764 lbs. This is, in fact, the lightest that the MX-5 as ever weighed. The MX-5's new weight even beats out the 1989 model, which measured in at 2105 lbs. Mazda could have made the vehicle even lighter, but they thought you'd like to keep safety features like the airbags and reinforced internal metal work... you know... just in case.

"The overall design will be smaller and narrower for the MX-5 and the structure will be steel for cost purposes. But Mazda is coming up with other creative ways to keep things light."2
